Celebrating 35 years of superb Indian dining

11^th September 2024 marks the 35^th anniversary of the founding of the Shampan Group of restaurants in Bromley and Bexley. The very first was our Bromley restaurant in Chatterton Road, though before it moved to its current site! The restaurant moved a short distance years ago, but each of the restaurants proved to be success, a success based on building up an enviable reputation for exceptional food and drink, great hospitality, and tasteful décor.

All three of the restaurants in our Group are participating in the celebration by offering 35% off the total bill for diners in all restaurants on the anniversary day of Wednesday 11^th September, and 20% off on the 8^th , 9^th, 10^th, and 12^th of September.*

35 years is a long journey! Many of our staff have been with us for most or all of that journey. We value having good people in the business who our customers enjoy meeting again and again. Our Founder, Sufian Miah, said, “I’m proud of what we have achieved at each restaurant and of the way we’ve engaged with and supported the community in each location, too. We’re like a friendly family, and we enjoy our time with each other, as well as with our customers.”

The first Shampan restaurant in Bromley was an unexpected opportunity for the young Sufian and was launched after a lot of hard work. You can hear an interview with Sufian, talking about the business from the early days in episode 172 of the Bromley Buzz podcast, here.

Along the way, the Shampan approach has been innovative. For example, we have menus that vary between each restaurant, but each is underpinned by the same standards. Using fresh ingredients, locally sourced where possible, and with wines properly and carefully selected to enhance the dining experience. When the Shampan in Welling was launched, it featured a bold picture window, at the time a departure from the adjacent premises which were typically shuttered by night. That has changed now, following our lead.

Thanks to our 35-year presence, we’re now serving the second, third, and even the fourth generations of our customers! Many of them bringing their children, grandchildren, and even great grandchildren to enjoy the Shampan experience. It was back in 2002 that Shampan Bromley introduced a buffet on Sundays, now available across all three restaurants, and at the time this was another innovation, particularly as we planned the menu to appeal to children and accustom them to spices.

Our most recent innovations are the alfresco outdoor dining area at Shampan at the Spinning Wheel, featuring a mural of the Taj Mahal as a selfie wall, and the lighter, smaller plate-based Tiffin Lunch. And we’re still supporting our community, from the Asian Football Awards, to the Bromley Buzz podcast, and the Above and Beyond Bromley Business Awards, now in their second year.

Meanwhile, summer continues and we have numerous weddings and other events that we are hosting. We look forward to more people celebrating their own anniversaries and special occasions with us.
